Congressman Andy Kim Wins Hunterdon County Convention, Winning First Three Open Conventions in NJ Senate Primary

FLEMINGTON N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim delivered yet another massive win in his bid to be the next U.S. Senator from New Jersey, this time at the Hunterdon County Convention. Despite a failed attempt from the County Party Chair to change the threshold for county line qualification via procedural motion, Andy won with 62 percent of the vote, 120 to 64 over First Lady Tammy Murphy after delegates voted via paper ballot between all Democratic primary candidates declared for U.S. Senate.

This win, along with victories in Monmouth and Burlington Counties, gives Kim three victories in the first three conventions in which delegates vote in a secret ballot, and comes on the same day that the National Organization for Women (NOW) PAC announced their endorsement. He now looks to continue this momentum through the rest of the convention cycle with Warren, Sussex, and Bergen Counties up next in early March.

“Today’s result is further proof of the grassroots power we have across the entire state and highlights what is possible when voters are given the opportunity to freely vote their conscience,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “I am honored to have earned Hunterdon County’s support today as I continue to fight to restore integrity to our politics, and I look forward to continuing to run this campaign in every county and at every convention. Regardless of continued victories across the state, I stand by my call for every county to use an office block ballot design so that the voters can have a fair, equitable choice this June.”

First elected to Congress in 2018 at the age of 36, three-term Congressman Andy Kim is one of the younger members to serve in Congress and is the first Asian American elected to federal office from New Jersey. If elected to the Senate, Andy would be the 4th youngest Senator, the first senator from South Jersey in recent memory, and the first Asian American elected to the Senate from the entire east coast of America. In 2018 and 2020, Andy defeated two self-funding millionaires in a district carried by former President Trump, and in 2022 Kim defeated his third self-funding millionaire opponent by 12 points.

In his three terms in Congress, Andy has worked hard to lower costs for New Jersey families and help support small businesses through challenging times. Andy has also been a leading champion in fighting against corruption in our broken politics.
